Have you ever woken up and just thought, “I wish I wasn’t me.” Or been sitting on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, all the above, thinking about how your life does not compare to those around you? Our society puts so much pressure on us to live lives that are not the ones that we want. We are expected to travel because it makes us worldly. we are expected to go out when we are young because that is living. We are expected to have a ton of friends because that makes us social and popular. The ones that are quiet, happy to be alone, weird, quirky they are viewed as a novelty. Everyone is trying to fit into a mold that they feel they are expected to fit in. Everyone is feeling pressures to be something that they aren’t. As much as it is pushed to “be yourself,” what does being yourself actually entail? Are we actually free to make those decisions or are we still pressured that what we are is not good enough? You look on social media, see everyone doing things that you aren’t doing, forcing the pressure again that your life does not measure up. It is so frustrating and heartbreaking. Heartbreaking that we are not truly free to be ourselves. Frustrating that we feel we need to be better, cooler, smarter, more adventurous. I know this is a struggle I deal with every day. I know I am not alone. But do know, you are good enough! Your life, it is your life. One day we will learn to block out the negative and live with the positive, but it takes time and practice. Unfortunately, I do not believe we will ever stop comparing ourselves to others. I just believe that everyone needs to know that they are good enough. You are good enough. I am good enough.
